The ranches of Tierra del Fuego are part of the region’s landscape. Today, livestock farming continues to develop in the north of the island and in the ecotone, that is, in the central area of the island where the steppe gives way to the forest and the mountains. The most notable activity of the Fuegian ranches is the breeding and shearing of sheep. The breeding of Hereford cattle and purebred Criollo horses is also prominent. Most ranches are accessed via gravel roads, making access limited from late autumn to spring. Many of them offer tourist services and/or guided tours.
