Pirinaica began by honouring the province’s sheep production. Over the years, and with the increase in attacks by feral dogs, the ranch transitioned to cattle farming, and today it is the southernmost Hereford breeding ranch. It started working on genetics related to its herd (the group of livestock on a farm). Its current extension is 21,900 hectares. It is entirely located within the Ecotone of Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur, in an area between the steppe and the mountains characterised by tall deciduous beech forests, low deciduous beech, box-leafed barberry bushes, and peat bogs. Pirinaica is located 100 km from the city of Río Grande (1.5 hours) and about 165 km from the city of Ushuaia (2.5 hours). It is accessed via Complementary Route A, which branches off from National Route No. 3. The main house of the ranch is located at kilometre 27 of Route A.
