Maritime and Prison Museum

This museum is housed in the old prison of the city of Ushuaia, founded in 1902. It includes several museums within it, such as the Prison Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Antarctic Museum, and the Art Museum. It is a place where you can see how the indigenous peoples, European sailors, and their expeditions are part of the local history. The historic pavilion, preserved as it was, offers a step back in time to when inmates were housed there in the 1930s. There are also temporary exhibitions by local, national, and international artists. Several documentary and fiction films have been shot in this museum. As it is privately managed and part of a site ceded by the navy, authorization must be requested to carry out productions there without disrupting the normal life of the place.
