The trail to Esmeralda Lake is located in Tierra Mayor Valley Nature and Scenic Reserve. It is accessible from National Route No. 3, 18 kilometres from the city of Ushuaia. At the beginning of the trail, the dominant vegetation is the lenga forest, a native tree of the area. The path leads through areas where foliage and peat bogs alternate, reaching a high mountain environment with an average height of 600 metres above the sea level. Once you reach the lake, you can appreciate the majestic surroundings of forest and snow-covered peaks. The greenish colour of its waters is due to sediment from the Ojo del Albino Glacier. It is important to note that, since much of the trail runs through wet and slippery terrain, it is necessary to use hiking boots, waterproof clothing, walking sticks, and warm clothing year-round. The access area to the trails has parking.
