The CAP was the first refrigeration plant in Río Grande, operating from 1918 to 1980. This refrigeration plant looked like a small city, with housing, a post office, a telephone exchange, and a narrow-gauge train station. Currently, some buildings are abandoned and deteriorated, while others are part of municipal offices or police detachments. In front of the central CAP building with its typical facade is the Botera Square. In 2013, the site suffered a consuming fire that destroyed much of its historical heritage. Geographically, it is located opposite the mouth of the Río Grande. The site was declared National Historic Monument. To access the restricted area due to the risk of collapse, procedures must be carried out with the Municipality.
